AMESBURY, Mass. – Junior goaltender
Lawton Zacher of the No. 14 Northeastern men's hockey team was named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for October, earning his first monthly honor from the league.
Zacher backstopped the Huskies to a 5-1-0 record overall and a perfect 3-0-0 mark in Hockey East play. He posted a .952 save percentage – the highest of any player to start at least four games and eight-best in the NCAA – along with a 1.51 goals against average, which sits among the top 15 nationally.
The New York native totaled 178 saves in six appearances, highlighted by a season-high 40 stops in a won over, then, No. 11/10 Boston College. He also recorded two shutouts (tied for first nationally) while allowing just nine goals all month. His five wins tied for sixth-most in the NCAA, and in league play, he led all Hockey East goaltenders in wins (3), goals against average (1.00) and save percentage (.970).
The 6-2 netminder enters November on a four-game win streak, tied for third-longest active run in the country and the only comprised entirely of victories over ranked opponents.
Zacher and the Huskies return to action for Homecoming Weekend with a two-game set against Stonehill at Matthews Arena on Friday (Nov. 7) and Saturday (Nov. 8).
