BOSTON – After a 12-point, eight rebound performance at Rhode Island last week, Northeastern men's basketball redshirt freshman
Xander Alarie has been named the CAA Rookie of the Week.
Â
Alarie reached double figures for the fifth time this season against the Rams and finished two boards shy of his fourth double double. He leads the team averaging 7.4 rebounds per game this season and is third in scoring (10.3ppg), while his three double doubles are good for second in the conference.
Â
Earlier this season at Colgate (13 points, 13 rebounds), he became the first Northeastern freshman to record a double-double since Bolden Brace and Maxime Boursiquot in 2016-17. Alarie then followed it up with a career-high 23 points and 11 boards at Harvard, becoming the first Huskies rookie to record a double double in back-to-back games since Shawn James in 2004-05.
Â
Alarie enters league play fifth in free throw percentage (.857), sixth in blocks per game (1.3) and seventh in rebounds per game. He is the second Northeastern newcomer to collect conference accolades this season after fellow rookie
Xavier Abreu was named the CAA Player of the Week on Nov. 24.
Â
Northeastern kicks off CAA action on Monday night at Elon. Tip-off at the Schar Center is set for 7 p.m. on FloCollege.
