Northeastern Faces Harvard At Fenway Park For 2025 Beanpot Championship

BOSTON – The Northeastern University baseball team (33-9) looks to defend its 2024 Baseball Beanpot title at Fenway Park this Tuesday evening, April 29th against Harvard University (11-22). It'll be the first Baseball Beanpot Championship game played at Fenway Park since 2019, with a start time of 7:05 p.m. or 30-40 minutes following the conclusion of the consolation game between Boston College and UMass.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. WE'VE GOT (RECENT) HISTORY
  • Northeastern played its first ever weekend series against the Harvard Crimson this season to open up the Huskies' 2025 home schedule. The Huskies swept the Crimson at Friedman Diamond, including a 6-3 come-from-behind victory in game two thanks to two homers from Ryan Gerety to break up a no-hitter in the seventh, and give NU the lead in the eighth on a grand slam. Both teams are coming in hot, with Northeastern on a 12-game winning streak, while Harvard has won seven of its last eight games including a three-game weekend sweep over Brown this past weekend.

  1. LOVE THAT DIRTY WATER
  • The Huskies and the Crimson will meet in the Baseball Beanpot Championship game for just the third time in the tournament's history. Harvard won the 2005 (7-3) and 2018 (8-6) championships over NU, despite Northeastern holding the advantage all-time in the tournament over Harvard, 10-7. It'll be the second Fenway Park Championship meeting between the two programs, with 2005's title game also happening at America's Most Beloved Ballpark. Northeastern is 7-8 in Beanpot Championship games all-time, while Harvard is is 4-9.

  1. HOW THEY GOT HERE
  • Northeastern shut out the Boston College Eagles (21-23) by the score of 3-0 on April 1st at Friedman Diamond to advance to their second straight Beanpot Championship game – Max Gitlin worked seven scoreless innings scattering just four hits and striking out two, while Cooper McGrath worked a two-inning save with just two hits allowed and three strikeouts. The Huskies struck first with two runs in the opening inning, and added in one more insurance run in the fourth on 10 total hits in the game. Harvard defeated UMass on the road at Earl Lorden Field to advance back to the championship for the second time in the last three seasons. The Crimson exploded for five runs in the fourth inning to break open the scoring, and would hold on for the 13-5 lead.
