BOSTON – Northeastern University head coach
Jerry Keefe has announced the signing of Mack Welby as the newest member of the Huskies men's hockey program. Mack comes to Northeastern through a partnership with Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.
Mack is a brave 11-year-old, born in Needham, Mass., and lives with Cerebral Palsy. He was officially introduced at a signing day press conference on Wednesday, September 17, at the Matthews Arena, during which he signed his official letter of intent. Mack's family was in attendance, along with his new teammates and members of the Northeastern athletics department. Now an official member of the Huskies men's hockey team, Mack will attend practices, games, and team functions.
"On behalf of our entire team, we are honored and excited to have Mack as the newest member of our team," said senior captain
Vinny Borgesi. "We look forward to having him around the rink and in the stands this season. From this point forward, all of our big moments are shared with Mack and his family."
Northeastern has partnered with Team IMPACT for 13 years, fostering meaningful connections between student-athletes and children facing serious illnesses. Over that time, 17 children have been matched across 11 different teams.
