Huskies Host William & Mary, Travel To No. 7 UConn

BOSTON -- Northeastern field hockey returns to CAA action this weekend, hosting William & Mary on Friday at Dedham Field before traveling to face No. 7 UConn on Sunday in Storrs.

Friday's CAA matchup against the Tribe is set for 1 p.m. and will stream on NESN+ and FloCollege, while Sunday's non-conference clash with the Huskies will begin at noon. Friday's game is also Northeastern's Mental Health Awareness Game.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. LAST TIME OUT: Northeastern opened CAA play with a 5-0 shutout victory at Hofstra on Friday before battling No. 7 Harvard to a scoreless draw through regulation and overtime on Sunday, with the Crimson ultimately claiming a 3-2 victory in the penalty shootout. Against Hofstra, the Huskies scored in each quarter and outshot the Pride 19-8, while Aiko Price made four saves to record her second shutout of the season. Two days later, Price turned in a career performance against one of the nation's top offenses, making a career-high eight saves to keep Harvard off the scoreboard through 75 minutes. Northeastern was held to one shot through regulation and overtime, while Harvard generated 20 shots and 15 penalty corners.
  2. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: William & Mary enters Friday's CAA matchup at 1-5 on the season after falling to Richmond, 5-2, on Sunday. The Tribe opened the season with a 5-2 win over Longwood before dropping four straight, including losses to VCU, American and Georgetown. Josie Mae Gruendel leads William & Mary with five points on two goals and an assist, while Hailey Haynes has also scored twice this season. The Tribe is led by head coach Tess Ellis, who is in her 14th season at the helm and has guided William & Mary to two CAA championships. No. 7 UConn enters Sunday's matchup at 6-1 following a 2-1 shootout victory over No. 3 Princeton on Sunday. The Huskies have also picked up wins over New Hampshire, Saint Joseph's, Brown, No. 17 Rutgers and Villanova, with their lone setback coming against Harvard. UConn has scored 21 goals through seven games, averaging 3.00 goals per game, while allowing just seven goals. The Huskies also lead their opponents 100-47 in shots and 51-26 in penalty corners.
  3. THE PRICE IS RIGHT: Freshman goalkeeper Aiko Price was named the NFHCA and CAA Defensive Player of the Week after posting two shutouts over the weekend against Hofstra and No. 7 Harvard. Price stopped all four shots on target against Hofstra before making a career-high eight saves against Harvard, keeping the Crimson scoreless through regulation and overtime. The two shutouts brought Price's season total to three, the most in the CAA, while her .780 save percentage ranks first in the conference. Her 32 saves are second in the league and her 1.64 goals-against average ranks third.
