Shelby Goldman recorded a match-high 16 kills for Albany as the Great Danes defeated the Northeastern volleyball team 3-1 (30-20, 18-30, 30-14, 30-18) Friday night at the Recreation and Convocation Center in Albany, NY. Northeastern falls to 16-9 overall and 7-2 in the conference, while Albany takes a two-match lead in the standings with a 21-5 overall mark and an undefeated 9-0 record in the America East.
UAlbany won the first game with a score of 30-20 before Northeastern evened the match with a 30-18 victory in game two. The Great Danes responded by winning the next two with scores of 30-14 and 30-18.
Goldman recorded a .485 hitting percentage, converting 16 of 33 attempts. Ashley DeNeal led the Great Danes defensively, notching 14 digs. Blair Buchanan led all players with 42 set assists, while Eileen Nicole Rodriguez tallied five service aces, including three straight in game three to help stretch the score to 15-6.
Northeastern was led on the offensive charge by Whitney Turner and Ashley Reeves, who recorded 14 and 12 kills, respectively for the Huskies. Bree Peterson tallied 18 digs defensively, while also handing out 40 assists.
The Huskies continue on the road tomorrow when they travel to Binghamton at 7 p.m.
