Huskies top George Mason, 10-6

Shortstop Mike Lyon continued on his torrid pace, clubbing a pair of two-run homers to help guide the Huskies to a 10-6 win against George Mason at Spuhler Field in Fairfax, Va. on Friday afternoon. Lyon's second home run was the 25th his career, putting him ahead of NU great Carlos Pena (24) for ninth all time in Northeastern history. Although the game was in Fairfax, the Huskies batted last in the game, as the series was originally scheduled to be played at the Huskies' Friedman Diamond.
Six Huskies finished with multiple hits in the game. In addition to Lyon, center fielder Frank Compagnone went 3-5 with a three-run homer, left fielder Mike Tamsin finished 3-5 with an RBI and two runs scored and James Donaldson went 2-4 with a two-run shot of his own to lead the Husky offense. The Huskies were down 3-0 before they came up to bat, but battled back and took a 4-3 lead at the end of the third inning that the would not relinquish.
After allowing three runs out of the gate in the top of the first, Husky starter Kris Dabrowiecki settled in and was able to pick up the win after going 5-1/3 innings and giving up six hits and four runs to go along with seven strikeouts. Sheldon McDonald and Bobby Carrington combined to pitch the next 2-1/3 innings before Dan Zehr retired the final four Patriot hitters to pick up his second save on the season.
Northeastern improved to 8-6 on the season and 2-2 in the CAA with the win, while George Mason dropped to 7-11 on the season and 4-2 in the CAA. The Huskies will try to clinch a series win as the two teams meet again at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Jeff Thomson will take the ball for the Huskies in the game.
