Starting pitcher
Les Williams threw two innings of no-hit ball before a solo home run from Davenport DH Dan Brown broke the scoreless tie. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, DiCesare smoked a line drive bomb to straightaway right field to get the Huskies within one. Compagnone singled and scored on Stokes' double to deep left-center to tie the game, 2-2, in the bottom of the fourth.
Northeastern took a 4-2 lead the next inning off a Pastyrnak RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Compagnone. Davenport tied the game in the sixth in Williams' last inning of work by stringing together a handful of singles. The Panthers took the lead in the seventh off reliever
Charly Bashara, but the Huskies came back swinging.
Matt Miller started things off with a single, followed by a textbook drag bunt from Pastyrnak. Two consecutive walks followed by a two-RBI single from Stokes put the Huskies up for good. Redshirt freshman
John Puttress added a two-RBI triple down the right field line to extend the lead, 10-5. Pastyrnak scored on DiCesare's RBI double to tack on an extra insurance run in the eighth.
Dan Zehr pitched a scoreless eighth and
Chris Carmain shut down Davenport in the ninth, throwing seven strikes in eight pitches.
The Huskies return to action tomorrow with a 10:30 a.m. game against St. Bonaventure and a 2 p.m. game against Illinois State. Live stats will be available at game time.
