Northeastern scored just two runs on seven hits, falling to Hofstra by a 5-2 margin at Friedman Diamond. Hofstra scored four times in the top of the first and cruised the rest of the way, handing NU it's seventh-straight loss and the first of Les Williams' season. None of the Huskies' seven hits came consecutively. Tony DiCesare roped a triple and David Gustafson batted 2-for-3 with a double to lead the offense.

Gustafson's double was his first of the season, and the two hits were his first multi-hit game of 2010.

Hofstra jumped on Williams early in the first, scoring the eventual winning run before the Huskies could record an out. A catcher's interference call and two singles loaded the bases, and Ethan Paquette swiftly cleared them with a double to deep center field. Paquette ended up scoring later in the inning, giving the Pride a 4-0 advantage that the Huskies never even sniffed.

The game remained 4-0 until the bottom of the seventh, when the Huskies finally got on the scoreboard. DiCesare's lead-off triple set up Jon Leroux for a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-1.

The Huskies got the score to 4-2 in the next frame, capitalizing on Gustafson's double down the left field line and two productive ground outs.

Hofstra padded their lead in the ninth, getting to the final 5-2 margin using a lead-off triple and a sacrifice fly.

Dan Zehr relieved Williams in the seventh inning, throwing 2 2/3 innings and allowing just two hits.

Frank Compagnone added two hits for the Huskies. Leroux stretched his team-leading batting average to .441 with a 1-for-2 day, and Matt Miller also contributed a hit.

The Huskies and the Pride go at it again tomorrow at Friedman Diamond in a 12 p.m. showdown. Sophomore lefty Andrew Leenhouts is slated to get the start for NU, looking to replicate the majority of his last outing (8-2/3 IP, 9 K in a loss at VCU). Live stats, video and radio will be available at game time.
