Sophomore Matt Miller batted 3-for-5 with two doubles and a game winning single in the ninth inning to push NU to a 4-3 win over UNC Wilmington in game one of Saturday's double header.

Logan Gillis singled to lead off the ninth and moved to third on a Brendan Stokes ground-rule double to left field. Stokes and Gillis came out for pinch runners, and both ended up scoring to take the come from behind win. Kevin Ferguson, running for Gillis, scored on a wild pitch and Jason Roth, on the bases for Stokes, scored when Miller lofted a single over the shortstop's head.

The win goes to Dan Zehr, who pitched a scoreless ninth after starter Les Williams went eight strong innings, striking out five.

It was an all-around good effort from the Huskies against a well-rounded Seahawk line up. NU tallied nine hits to UNCW's seven, and committed just one error which didn't lead to any runs.

NU got the scoring started in the second inning, using a leadoff double from Frank Compagnone as fuel. A John Puttress single to right gave Gillis an opportunity for a sacrifice fly, putting the Huskies up 1-0.

Wilmington countered in the third, notching one of its own to tie the game at 1-1. The Seahawks then snagged the lead in the fourth on a solo home run to right field by Robbie Monday. Wilmington held the lead until the end of the game, adding another run in the seventh on its second solo shot of the game, this one off the bat of Hunter Ridge.

NU started building a rally in the eighth inning, stringing two hits to score a run and bring the game to 3-2. David Gustafson singled to center and moved to third on Miller's second double of the game, a ground-rule job to left center. Alan Pastyrnak grounded out, pushing Gustafson across the plate.

Nine of 10 Huskies who came to the plate reached base, eight of whom reached on hits.
