The Northeastern men's track & field team displayed its strength at the 29th Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic on Saturday, Jan. 15 in New Haven, Conn. at Coxe Cage, bringing home a pair of first-place victories along with a third-place performance to key NU's efforts.
Freshman
Brian Doyle headlined for the Huskies, not only topping the 32-man field in the 3,000-meter run for the triumph, but did so in record-breaking fashion Doyle's time of 8:26.84 stands as the fifth-fastest time in NU indoor history in the 3K, just edging out Nate Thompson's time of 8:31.74 set in Feb. 21, 1998.
Veteran
Jonathan Hall outran the 50-man contingent in the 400-meter dash, turning on a season-best mark of 49.62 for the win. Rookie
Alex Shapiro finished seventh to the tune of 50.87 while classmate
Dylan Lucas crossed in 51.70 for 14th. Sophomore
Anthony Gentles closed out NU's 400-meter grouping with a time of 52.06 for 16th.
In the mile, rookie
Eric Jenkins represented the Huskies' third-place run, clocking in 4:17.62 to beat out 43 other harriers in the mile. Junior
Daniel Grant and freshman
Andrew Snyder looped the track in 4:23.33 and 4:23.60, respectively, for 10th and 11th place.
Freshman
Sean Collins was NU's lone speedster to pass into the 60-meter hurdles finals. Collins finished in sixth place at a rate of 8.57.
In the 800-meter run, sophomore
Luke Malley was timed in 2:02.79 for 14th place while junior
Sebastian Putzeys and sophomore
John Jantz rounded out NU's times in the 3,000-meter run. Putzeys legged out a mark of 8:58.52 for ninth while Jantz closed out the race in 17th with a mark of 9:21.15.
The Northeastern 'A' quartet of Hall, Collins, Gentles and Shapiro banded together for a sixth-place jaunt of 3:23.64 in the 4 x 400-meter relay while the Northeastern 'B' grouping of sophomores
Kemardo Tyrell and Mason Myles, freshman
Jackson MacDonald and Velez clocked in 10th place in 3:26.54
Senior
Brian Daly was NU's lone field participant, clearing 4.35m (14'3.25) for fifth place in the pole vault.
The Huskies have next weekend off before returning home to host the Boston Indoor Games at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center for Boston bragging rights on Friday, Jan. 28.
