Sophomore sensation
Eric Jenkins ran away with history on Saturday morning as the Portsmouth, N.H. native won the individual title at the 2011 CAA Cross Country Championship at the Nash Farm Battlefield Park in Hampton, Ga. with ease and helped the Huskies tie a program best third-place finish. The Huskies captured third place at last year's conference event.
Jenkins was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet after topping the runner-up, William & Mary's Zach Gates, by 19 seconds.
William & Mary emerged with its 12th-consecutive CAA team title, finishing with five top-10 performances. The Tribe's aggregate of 27 points cleared the runner-up, George Mason, by 45 points (lowest score wins). The Huskies totaled 70 points for their third-place showing.
Jenkins is the first Northeastern student-athlete in program history to win the individual CAA conference crown. The second-year sensation dusted the 58-man field and clocked in the winning time of 24:46, marking his best time of the season by seven seconds.
