Huskies hunt for two points at UVM in Sunday night showdown

Rehashing the Providence game
Northeastern turned in its first multi power play goal showing of the season, but the Huskies surrendered the first six goals at Providence on Friday night and ultimately lost, 6-2, at Schneider Arena. Vinny Saponari has been stringing it along, riding a five-game point streak with his first power play goal of the season and 10th in his college career. Saponari logged six points (3-3-6) in his last five outings. Cody Ferriero also found the back of the net with the extra skater for his first goal of the season. Garrett Vermeersch accounted for a pair of assists for his first mutli-point game of the season and 11th of his career. Colton Saucerman and Joseph Manno also registered assists in the setback. Chris Rawlings started for Northeastern and stopped 10-of-13 shots in 22:51 minutes of work. Clay Witt made his first appearance of the season and relived Rawlings, turning aside 17 shots on 20 attempts in 37:02 minutes of play.

Calling all Catamounts
Vermont suffered a 6-2 setback of its own on Friday night, Nov. 16, at home against Boston University. The Terriers received goals from six different players for the victory. The Catamounts are on a two-game slid after shutting out Providence on Nov. 3 for their first triumph of the season. Senior Chrs McCarthy leads UVM's scoring attack with five points (2-3-5) and is one of two skaters with a pair of goals this season (Pete Massar). Vermont utilizes a pair of rookies in net, but Brody Hoffman has seen the brunt of the work and started seven contests for UVM wuth a 2.89 GAA and a .904 save percentage. Vermont's offense has been stagnant thus far, tied for 53rd in the country and is averaging 1.71 goals per game. The defense is 47th in the NCAA, surrendering 3.14 goals per game. The Catamounts' power play is a bright spot, ranked 29th in the country and has converted 5-of-28 on their chances (17.9).

Notes from Friday night at Providence
Vinny Saponari is on a career-best five-game point streak as a Husky. Saponari has accounted for three goals and as many helpers over that span. Saponari has also scored goals in his last two outings, marking the second time he's accomplished that at Northeastern.

Cody Ferriero is riding a three-game point streak after scoring his first goal of the season on the power play. The PPG marks Ferriero's first one since scoring at Vermont on Jan. 27, 2012. It marks his fourth-career power play goal at Northeastern.

• The Huskies are now 7-for-49 on the power play this season. Northeastern scored a pair of power play goals at Providence, marking the first time NU's turned that trick this season.

Garrett Vermeersch has recorded 11 multi-point games as a Husky. Seven of those instances have included two assists, including tonight's performance.

Chris Rawlings broke the 3,000-save plateau at Providence (3,003) and is just 164 saves shy of tying Brad Thiessen (3,166) for second most in school history
