BOSTON – The Northeastern track and field team kicks off the 2012-13 indoor season this weekend with the 4th annual Jay Carisella Invitational on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
The meet is named in honor of Jay Carisella, who was a member of the Northeastern track team in 2007, though he tragically died in an automobile accident on Dec. 23, 2007. Jay participated as a middle distance runner. He demonstrated outstanding character, led by example and always created a positive experience for all people he came in contact with.
The Huskies will be welcoming back all NU track and field alumni and their guests for the free event. General admission tickets for non-alumni attendees are $5 for adults and free for children 16 and under. Northeastern will also be hosting a VIP area with complimentary food and drinks throughout the day on Dec. 1. Admission to the VIP area is $10 for adults and free to children 16 and under.
Northeastern will see a majority of its squad competing on Saturday in the team's opening meet of the season, including last year's NCAA Regional competitor
Max Milder, who will compete in the weight throw. On the women's side,
Nia Howard,
Victoria Alexander and
Ashlee Pitts highlight a strong core of Huskies, and will run in the 60-meter dash.
