Northeastern pulled off another comeback victory Tuesday, scoring two runs in the top of the tenth inning on a single by
Jason Vosler to beat Georgetown 9-7.
Freshman
Nick Berger got the win after pitching three scoreless innings in relief.
Sam Berg shut the door in the bottom of the tenth for his second save of the season.
Rob Fonseca had four hits and
Matt Miller went 3-5 with two RBI. The Huskies had 17 total hits in the game.
Freshman
Michael Foster made his first career start on the mound for the Huskies, going four innings and surrendering three earned runs on seven hits.
Making the start for the Hoyas was Jack Vander Linden. He went four and a third, also allowing three earned runs on seven hits.
The Huskies wasted no time, taking the lead in the top of the first. Miller singled in
Oliver Hart who reached on a throwing error and stole second to give NU a 1-0 lead.
The Hoyas responded with two unearned runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Then in the bottom of the second, Steve Anderson led off with a double and Paul Bello moved him to third on a groundout. Andy Lentz then hit a single to left, scoring Anderson and making it 3-1 Hoyas. Lentz stole second and Justin Leeson singled to right center moving Lentz to third. Then Mike Garza hit a two-run single, extending Georgetown's lead to 5-1.
The Huskies got a run to cut the lead to 5-2 in the top of the third when Hart hit a one-out single, advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third when Miller flied out to right field.
Rob Fonseca then hit an RBI single to bring Hart home.
Foster held the Hoyas at bay, setting them down in order in the third and fourth innings.
In the fifth, the Huskies tied the game with a three-run inning.
Aaron Barbosa walked to start things off and Hart continued his hot hitting, doubling to deep left and bringing Barbosa around to score. Miller then singled down the right field line, scoring Hart and cutting the GU lead to 5-4.
Alex McKeon walked and Puttress singled through the left side, loading the bases. That forced Vander Linden out of the game in favor of James Heine, but
Jon Leroux singled up the middle, plating the third run of the inning to tie the game at 5-5.
Sean Lyons came in to pitch in the bottom of the fifth and walked in a run to give GU a 6-5 lead.
Northeastern tied it 6-6 in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Vosler, but the Hoyas retook the lead when freshman
Nick Berger came in with runners on the corners and balked in a run.
After the balk, Berger was perfect, giving the Huskies a big boost from the bullpen and retired nine Hoyas in a row.
Down a run entering the top of the ninth, the Huskies were able to force extra innings after
Jon Leroux hit a one-out double and two infield errors from the Hoyas brought the tying run in.
Rob Fonseca and
Alex McKeon led off the top of the tenth inning with back-to-back singles.
Jimmy Filter came in to run for Fonseca and came around to score when Vosler hit a two-run single to left center field, giving the Huskies their first lead since the top of the first.
Northeastern has now won five straight games and will face the University of Pennsylvania tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. in Auburndale, Fla. to conclude its time in the Sunshine State.
