UMASS LOWELL
The Northeastern men's track & field team made its presence felt in two places this weekend, including three victories at the George Davis Invitational in Lowell, Mass. and a big performance out of senior
Andrew Staples at the Florida Relays in Gainsville, Fla.
Sophomore
Christopher Reider set a personal record in the javelin throw and cruised to victory in a field of 20 with a pitch of 59.59m (195'6). Senior
Dan Brooks was fourth with a heave of 51.25m (168'2).
The Huskies' throwers continued their outdoor season of excellence with a pair of wins in the hammer throw and discs throw.
Sophomore
Max Milder defeated 18 others in the hammer throw for the victory with a yank of 55.17m (181') while classmate
Conor Ebbs posted a 12th-place performance of 38.92m (127'8).
Senior
Patrick Jablonski found the podium again with a victorious clearance of 48.63m (159'6) in the discus throw while Ebbs grabbed 10th with a mark of 41.89m (137'5). Junior
Mark Mastone was 7th with a measure of 38.15m (125'2) as Milder's mark of36.79m (120'8) scored him a 19th-place finish. Freshman
Sam Braen closed out in 31st with a throw of 29.34m (96'3).
Jablonski didn't quit in the shot put event, posting a second-place heave of 15.60m (51'2.25) which was second only to NU alumnus and two-time All-American Nate Hunter. Mastone had a big throw, as well, taking fourth with a toss of 14.40m (47'3).
Senior
Brian Racca put together a second-place combination of 14.29m (46'10.75) in the triple jump while junior
Tejorn Davis closed in on third with a leap of 14.19m (46'6.75). Rookie
Jason Matthews was fourth with a combo of 13.98m (45'10.50) and classmate
Ryan Malone finished ninth with a mark of 13.06m (42'10.25).
Newcomer Toritseju Ometoruwa ran for third place in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 51.11 and junior
Anthony Gentles looped the track in ninth with a time of 51.84.
Freshman
Stefano Combi bolted for third place in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.14. Racca closed out the short events with a 19th-place mark of 23.11 in the 200-mete dash. Gentles tied for 31st with a run of 23.66 and Braen crossed in 24.15 for 48th place.
Rookie
Conor Lyons offered a strong time of 1:56.75 for ninth place, followed closely by classmate Zachary Fraeilli for 11th (1:57.02). Seniors
Sebastian Putzeys and
Luke Malley finished 22nd and 23rd, respectively, with times of 2:00.68 and 2:00.83. Freshman
Andrew Rice finished 29th with a tie of 2:01.89.
In the distance game, sophomore
Michael MacKenzie crossed in 4:16.99 for 24th place and freshman
Stephen Sollowin emerged for the two-mile challenge with a team-best time of 9:26.82 (sixth place).
In the pole vault, senior
Pablo Rodriguez picked up a fifth-place finish after a spring of 4.30m (14'1.25). Combi cleared 4.15m (13'7.25) for seventh. Freshman
Jasper McCoy closed out the long jump in 16th with a combination of 5.96m (19'6.75).
FLORIDA RELAYS
Staples came away from Gainsville, Fla. as the Huskies' top performance after topping 12 others in the long jump this weekend with a leap of 7.15m (23'5.50) at the Florida Relays.
In the 110-meter hurdles, freshman
Jared Lane motored for a time of 15.15 for 49th place while sophomore
Jackson MacDonald notched a time of 15.36 for 53rd.
In NU's final trial at Florida, the 4 x 200-meter quartet of sophomore
Alex Shapiro, senior
Darius Velez, Lane and MacDonald joined forces for a 22nd-place time of 1:27.55.
Northeastern closed out its home track & field schedule next Saturday, April 14 when it hosts the Solomon Invitational and Solomon Outdoor Track in Dedham, Mass.
