BOSTON—Led by Kelly Bacon's 11th season double-double, the Northeastern volleyball team defeated reigning CAA tournament champion Hofstra, 3-1 (25-23, 25-14, 21-25, 25-22), on Saturday afternoon at Cabot Center. With the win, the Huskies improved to 12-7 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.

Bacon tallied 14 kills and 12 digs on the night and added a team-best two aces. Rookie Jamie Bredahl also notched a double-double with 13 kills and 16 assists alongside eight digs.

Fourth-year setter Ina Kamenova threw up a match-high 28 assists, marking her highest performance since opening CAA player against College of Charleston. Libero Natalia Skiba anchored Northeastern's defense with a team-best 16 digs.

Hofstra was strong out of the gate, taking the first five points of the match and eventually landing an 8-1 lead. Northeastern struggled to gain momentum in the first 13 exchanges, before getting its first kill of the match on a swing by Hanna Gibeau to bring the score to 4-10. The kill sparked a 9-2 run for the Huskies, who stormed back to tie the set at the 12 and 13 mark. Amidst their run was a streak of six, including back-to-back kills from Bredahl and another consecutive pair from Bacon.

The two squads battled with a lot of back-and-forth action for the rest of the frame. Neither team put together a string of more than two points until the final run of the set. Northeastern took its first lead of the match going on top, 19-18, thanks to an error by the Pride. Down 23-22, the Huskies put together a streak of three, closing out the first set, 25-23, capped with an attack down the middle from Caterina Rosander.

The Pride had another strong start to the second stanza, grabbing an early 4-1 advantage, but the Huskies found drive much sooner this time around. Trailing 5-2, Northeastern took advantage of four consecutive Hofstra errors to go on top, 6-5. An 11-2 burst gave the Red and Black a commanding 13-7 lead and the led by at least four points for the remainder of the set.

After Hofstra scored two in a row to close the gap to within five, Bredahl responded with consecutive kills, for the second time, to quiet the Pride. As the Huskies led, 20-14, a kill and an ace from Bacon ignited a five-point pressure run to close out the set. Northeastern took the frame, 25-14, claiming eight of the final 10 exchanges.

After Northeastern took the opening point of the third set on an error, it was all offense for both squads. The next ten straight exchanges ended in a kill, bringing the score to 7-4 in the Pride's favor. NU rattled off three in a row to tie the score at seven, but a 7-1 run gave Hofstra a six point advantage.

Three straight points pushed the Pride to set point, but the Huskies stayed alive, posting the next four surrendering a set-closing kill to Hofstra's Veronika Kostova. Hofstra avoided the sweep with a 25-21 third-set victory.

Hofstra kicked off the fourth fram, 3-0, before the Huskies scored three of their own to knot the score. Bredahl, Nichole Kurz and Alexa Armstrong teamed up offensively to put NU on top, 6-4.

An ace by Bacon gave the Huskies another three-point streak, forcing Hofstra to call for a timeout. After some back-and-forth action, the Huskies took four straight points, including consecutive kills from Bacon and Bredahl and push ahead 18-11.

A 7-2 run by the Pride closed the gap, 23-21, but after a Kurz kill brought the Huskies to match point, Bacon's 14th swat of the match sealed the deal, 25-22, for Northeastern.

The Huskies return to action when they take on Towson on Friday, Oct. 18, at Cabot Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
