Knotted up, 11-11, NU posted a 6-3 push to establish a three-point lead. W&M did not back down as they landed three swings of their own, but three consecutive kills capped by a cross-court attack from
Ava Cramp sealed the deal for the Huskies, 25-21.
The Tribe came back fighting in the second frame as they posted a quick 4-2 lead before the Huskies came back to tie at the five mark. Neither team budged as the stanza was tied 11 times throughout the set. Even, 19-19, William & Mary threw down a kill and forced a Bredahl error to take a two-point advantage.
A trio of kills from
Nichole Kurz put NU back on top for its final lead of the set. A Tucker ace and a Tribe error closed out the second frame for the Huskies, 25-21.
The third stanza started out much like the previous as both teams exchanged points evenly in the early goings. Tangled, 11-11, W&M posted the next five points to force NU head coach to burn a timeout.
The Huskies responded from the breather, triggering a run to even the frame once again, 16-16. William & Mary and Northeastern fought neck-and-neck down the stretch, but the Tribe avoided the sweep with a 25-23 third-set victory.
W&M would not back down as it entered the fourth set with a quick 9-3 advantage. The Huskies closed the gap to within four, 10-6, after a double block from Rosander and Cramp, but W&M utilized a strong attack to go up, 17-9.
Northeastern used a 5-1 run to invade the Tribe's lead, but it was not enough to stop William & Mary from forcing a fifth set after a 25-17 triumph.
The eliminating set started in an offensive duel as the Huskies and the Tribe landed 10 kills in the first 14 exchanges. Even 8-8, William & Mary broke out of the battle posting the final seven points and holding Northeastern just one for the remainder of the set. W&M walked away with a 15-9 win in the eliminating set for a 3-2 match victory.
