BOSTON—The 2013 cross country seasons came to a close at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., when sophomore
Wesley Gallagher crossed the finish line.
One of 253 runners competing in the national showdown on Nov. 23, Gallagher completed the 10k race with a time of 31:46.6, finishing 148th overall, just 2:05.5 behind Oregon's Edward Cheserek, who claimed first place.
"Wes compete hard despite the weather conditions," said head coach
Cathrine Erickson. "Qualifying for the national meet as a sophomore says a lot about Wes and his potential."
Gallagher, who led the Northeastern group in every meet this year, was the second Northeastern runner to compete at nationals 1993, when Erik Nadeau competed for the individual title.
The Pembroke, Mass., native's performance was the finale of a strong season for the Northeastern cross country program as Gallagher led the team in all races this year.
Gallagher and the Huskies will return to action on Dec. 7, when they kick off the outdoor track and field season at the Boston University Season Opener.
"We have a team full of very competitive and loyal athlete's who believe in the future success of the men's and women's cross country and track and field teams," said Erickson. "We are looking forward to a great year."
