STORRS, Conn.—
The Northeastern women's volleyball team closed the UConn Invitational by sweeping Albany, 3-0 (25-13, 30-28, 25-18), on Saturday night at Gampel Pavilion. With the win, the Huskies finish 2-1 in the tournament and 3-4 on the season.

As a team, the Huskies recorded 46 kills led by a match-high 14 from Kelly Bacon, who also had nine digs, and Hannah Gibeau, who contributed two digs and a block. Nichole Kurz posted a team high attack percentage (.429) and landed six total kills. Her counterpart Alexa Armstrong tallied six total blocks and four attacks.

Libero Natalia Skiba once again anchored NU's defense, accumulating 21 digs along side a service ace and two assists.

Fourth-year setter Ina Kamenova posted a team-high 22 assists with 10 digs and an ace while freshman setter Jamie Bredahl put up 17 assists, five digs and four kills.

Northeastern opened the match fast, grabbing a 10-2 lead in the first set with kills from Hanna Gibeau and Nichole Kurz before an early Albany timeout. The Huskies didn't back down after the break, scoring seven of the next nine points for the 17-4 advantage, prompting Albany to utilize its final breather.

The Great Danes closed the gap to within 10 after landing a kill and forcing three consecutive errors, but it was not enough to stop NU from breezing through the first frame with a 25-13 victory.

NU struggled in the early goings of the second stanza as Albany quickly built a 7-2 lead after errors plagued the Huskies' column. Northeastern took off on a 5-0 run, provoking UAlbany to regroup while still ahead by three.

Back-to-back kills gave the Great Dane's a four-point extension, 20-16, but this would be the widest advantage for the remainder of the set. Simultaneous kills from Bacon and Gibeau and an Albany error tied the contest, 21-21.

Offense dominated the back end of the stanza as Northeastern posted six kills to Albany's five in the final exchanges. The Huskies were able to defend their court, taking the second set with a 30-28 triumph.

Albany came back fighting to kick off the third frame, quickly posting five kills in the first seven exchanges to give the Great Danes a 5-2 advantage. Bredahl surprised Albany's back court with two consecutive aces, followed by a Bacon kill to give the Huskies a one point lead at the 6-5 mark.

Northeastern used a pair of kills to extend their lead, 11-8, and push an Albany timeout. The Great Danes returned from huddle making offensive noise as they tallied a block followed by three consecutive kills to tie the set, 13-13. Northeastern responded with a trio of Bacon kills topped with a swat from Armstrong, giving the Huskies four insurance points, 18-14, and stimulating UAlbany's final timeout.

Albany's timeout was unable to slow the Huskies, who immediately threw down a kill following the break. An Armstrong kill and a double block by Armstrong and Gibeau sealed the sweep for the Huskies in 25-18 third-set victory.

The Huskies continue their road stint as they head to San Diego, Calif., next weekend for the Aztec Invitational. Northeastern kicks off the tournament with a Friday afternoon match against San Francisco with the first serve set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
