Women's Results BOSTON -- The Northeastern cross country teams had success at the New England Championships on Saturday finishing sixth and 12th. The event was held at Franklin Park.
The men finished with a team score of 247 after four runners finished in the top 50 of the event. At the head of the pack for the Huskies was
Zachary Fraielli. The senior finished the 8k in 24:43.30, averaging a 4:58 mile.
Fraielli has continued to impress this season and once again improved his total time from a year ago. In 2013 he finished the race in ninth-place with a time of 24:46. Behind Fraielli for Northeastern was freshman
Christian Stafford who crossed the finish line with a time of 25:17.44, good for 45th place overall. Just two spots behind Stafford was
Stephen Sollowin who finished the race in 25:19.64.
Rounding out the qualifying runners for the Huskies was
Zachary Krause,
Charles Conway and Benjamin Trapini. Krause finished the race in 25:22.75 to earn a 56th place finish. Conway and Trapini finished 25:43.69 and 25:53.25, respectively, to earn 94th and 114th place. Providence earned first place as a team at the event.
The women also had success at the Championships finishing 12th overall, an improvement from a year ago when they finished 21st overall. Two Huskies finished in the top 10 of the race, and the women earned a team score of 320. Taking first-place overall was the University of New Hampshire.
Lucy Young paced NU as the sophomore earned a second-place finish with a time of 17:34.73. Young has run very well this year and has continued to be a strong asset for the team. Behind Young was
Jordan O'Dea. The sophomore finished the 5k in 17:49.28 to take home seventh place. O'Dea has also been a strong runner this season and this is the second time she has finished a race in the top seven this season.
Along with Young and O'Dea, several other Huskies had solid outings at Franklin Park.
Kerri Ruffo earned 55th place with a time of 18:34.64, while fellow freshman
Madeline Bradford finished in 77th-place after crossing the finish line in 18:48.54.
The Huskies return to action in three weeks time when they host the CAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1. The event will held at Franklin Park. Stay tuned to GoNU.com for more information on the CAA Championships.
