BRONX, N.Y. – The Northeastern Huskies 2014 cross country season came to an end at the IC4A/ECAC Championships held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York.
The men's team sent six competitors to the race to represent Northeastern cross country in the five-mile run. The runners –
Christian Stafford,
Ben Trapani,
Patrick Cunningham,
Charles Conway,
Paul Duffey, and Jay Navin – earned a 12th-place finish out of the 15 competing teams, with a score of 312.
The race was comprised of 121 competitors. NU was led by Stafford, who crossed the finish line in 26.22.5 to earn the 44th spot overall. It was a great fall season for Stafford as he has helped guide the Huskies to strong finishes at the CAA Championships and the Shawn M. Nassaney invitational.
Just second behind the freshman was New York Native
Charles Conway, who took home a 47th-place finish with a time of 26:24.8.
Ben Trapani, the next Husky to cross the finish line, earned the 63rd spot after he completed the five-mile run in 26:39.3.
Trapani, just a freshman, has had a tremendous fall season for Northeastern. He has earned one first-place finish this season, and helped the Huskies to their CAA success with a 17th overall finish at the Championships.
Paul Duffey took home 90th overall with a time of 27:20.9. The other two Huskies to round out the team's score were
Patrick Cunningham and Jay Navin, who finished in 101st place and 115th place, respectively, with times of 27:39.4 and 28:21.1.
First place went to Columbia with a score of 65 after three runners finished in the top 15 of the race. Behind the Lions were Princeton, Georgetown and Harvard.
The championships bring an end to what was a very successful 2014 season for the Huskies. The men's team earned five top-10 finishes highlighted by second overall at the CAA Championships.
Zachary Fraielli,
Stephen Sollowin and
Zachary Krause were recognized with All-CAA accolades.
The women also had a tremendous season earning four top-15 finishes. They improved across the board from the 2013 season, and appear to have a bright future with
Lucy Young and
Jordan O'Dea leading the program. Young finished in the top-20 of all the events she competed in and both were named to the All-CAA team.
Northeastern now turns its attention to the indoor track and field season, which is set to begin on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Boston University's Season Opener.
