BOSTON -- Northeastern men's ice hockey incoming freshman Dylan Sikura was chosen in the sixth round (178th overall) by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2014 NHL Draft on Saturday.

Sikura becomes the 50th player in program history to be drafted by an NHL team, and joins current Huskies Matt Benning (Boston Bruins, 2012) and Kevin Roy (Anaheim Ducks, 2012) as the other current student-athletes who have been drafted into the league. Sikura is also the fifth player in team history to be selected by Chicago. He was one of 21 current, incoming or committed athletes from Hockey East institutions selected in the Draft, a league record.

Sikura will join the Huskies in 2014-15 after three seasons with the Aurora Tigers (OJHL). The Aurora, Ontario native was second on the team last year with 64 points (17-47-64). His 47 assists were tied for the fifth most in the league, while Sikura also contributed 21 points (10-11-21) in playoff action. He finished his career in Aurora with 134 points (43 goals, 91 assists) in 167 games.

"Dylan is skilled, smart, plays with a lot of intelligence, gets around the ice really well, and can make plays. He always looking for that perfect play to set up his teammates - he's obviously an unselfish player. He has really good offensive instincts and he's someone that we look to try and crack our top six lineup. He is someone that has that ability because of the offensive skills and the instincts that he possesses and brings each and every day.

Sikura was selected to the Tigers in the 14th round (266th overall) by the Erie Otters in the OHL Priority Selection in 2011. He was a two-time member of Team East at the CJHL Prospects Games, helping the squad to a pair of President's Cup titles.

Sikura will join a Huskies club that went 19-14-4 during 2013-14, reaching the Beanpot championship game for the third straight season and returning to the Hockey East playoffs for the first time in three years.
