Coach's thoughtsFollowing the NCAA Northeast Regional, head coach
Cathrine Erickson expressed the coaching staff and she are looking forward to this weekend as many of the student-athletes have competed in either the regional or Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship, Oct. 31.
Steps for successWith seven first-years (four men | three women), five sophomore (two men | three women) and only three upperclassmen (Duffey, Maritim, O'Dea) entering the race, the championship serves as a building block to the Huskies' team and individual success. "With the younger student-athletes, we want to teach them how to run and prepare to make a national championship as an individual or as a team, in the future," said Erickson. Rooted in historyNortheastern's participation in the IC4As dates back to as early as the 1970s, but the Huskies have only recently began competing in the championship again under Erickson, who has been at the helm of the track and field/cross country programs since 2012. The men's program clinched the IC4A title back in 1975. The men's program returns to the championship this season for the second time and the women's side for the first time under Erickson.
Last year at Van Cortlandt ParkThe men's program had six student-athletes compete at Van Cortlandt Park, who helped NU take home 12th place out of 15 teams. The Husky pack was led by Stafford (26:22.5), who finished 44th out of 121 competitors, and Duffey, who took home 90th overall with a time of 27:20.9.
What's next?Northeastern will shift gears and head into the men's and women's indoor track and field season.
