WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –
Martin Nygaard's 65th-minute header off a free kick from
Gerardo Milano stood as the match-winner for the remaining 25 minutes of play on Tuesday night as the Northeastern men's soccer team picked up three points on the road at Hartford's Al-Marzook Field.

The Huskies prevailed despite turning six fewer shots than the Hawks (13-7) and two fewer shots on goal (4-2). Northeastern (3-8-0) withstood 10 shot attempts by Hartford (4-5-2) during the second half, benefitting from
Jonathan Thuresson's four saves that netted the Huskies their third clean sheet of the year.

Khesanio Hall crafted four of Northeastern's seven shots, while Nygaard (two shots) and
Daniel Arvidsson created the remaining three chances for NU.
Gerardo Milano and
Ackim Mpofu made their presence steadily known throughout the evening, showcasing fine displays of athleticism during a number of runs up the midfield.

NU won eight corners, earning five alone during the second half, while holding Hartford to two in the same category. Hall and Arvidsson collected the Huskies' two cautions, receiving them during the 57th and 73rd minutes, respectively.

• Northeastern (65th minute) – Hartford committed a foul on the left edge of the Huskies' attacking third, awarding NU a free kick from about 30 yards away. Northeastern flooded the 18-yard box with eight men, leaving
Gerardo Milano and
Daniel Arvidsson to line up the set piece. Milano then curled the free kick to the right post, where the six-foot-four
Martin Nygaard made a charge at the net, timing his header perfectly to put the Huskies in front for good, 1-0.

Martin Nygaard scored the first goal of his collegiate career, making his 24th appearance at Northeastern.
• Like Nygaard,
Gerardo Milano registered the first assist of his collegiate career during his 11th NU appearance.
•
Jonathan Thuresson notched his third clean sheet of the 2016 season and eighth of his career. Thuresson's four saves on Tuesday are the most he has made in a shutout this year.
• The Huskies improved to 3-0-0 this season when not conceding a goal. NU is also undefeated this season when attempting five or more corners in a match (charted eight on Tuesday).
• Northeastern snapped Hartford's 265-minute streak without allowing a goal.
• NU won its first match in three tries against the Hawks since the 2004 season.
