Sullivan breaks pentathlon school record, day one New England Championships

BOSTON – After day one of the NEICAAA New England Indoor Championships, hosted at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center, Kelsey Sullivan broke the pentathlon school record (3,791 points), which was last set by assistant coach and recent Hall of Fame inductee Tramaine Shaw during the 2007-08 season (3,685 points).
 
Sullivan, who earned second, notched top-five finishes in all the pentathlon events, including a five-way tie for first place in the high hump (1.68m) and a second place finish in the 60mH (8.93m).
 
Nick Fofana leads the heptathlon for the Huskies with 2,753 points after the first four events. Fofana won the shot put with a throw of 13.73m and tied for fourth place in the high jump with Matthew Ferri with 1.81m.

Standings
Northeastern women's track and field stands in first place out of 21 teams with 58 points, followed by Rhode Island (34) and Maine (18). The men hang in second out of 21 teams with 22 points, followed by Southern Connecticut State (19). Rhode Island currently leads with 23 points.
 
Additional highlights 
• Connor Fugere earned 12th place in the weight throw with 15.53m.
• Alexandra Rose earned silver with 16.99m in the weight throw. 
• Kyle Darrow won gold in the long jump with 7.52m .
• Betsy Garnick placed third in the long jump with 5.74m.
• Jacilyn Briggs earned third in the pole vault with 3.90m.
 
Today
The championships pick up at 10 a.m. today. The men will finish up the heptathlon with the 60mH, pole vault and 1000m run. The rest of the team (men and women) close out the championships with the open 60m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, 500m dash, open 800m run, 1000m run, 5000m run and distance medley relay.
