Post-game Interview
BROOKLINE, Mass. – Five solid innings from
Andrew Misiaszek were just what the Northeastern baseball team was looking for out of the freshman left-hander on Tuesday afternoon as the Northeastern baseball team earned a 4-3 midweek victory against Hartford at Friedman Diamond.
Â
Misiaszek began his third career start with four scoreless frames, collecting nine outs during his first trip through the Hawks' lineup. The Oceanside, New York, native struck out five and stood in line for the victory in the fifth after
Keith Kelly's relay throw from
Cam Walsh in right field met
Josh Treff at the plate in time to keep the tying run off the board.
Â
Tyler Robinson and
Tyler Brown moved through the sixth through eighth innings with relative ease while
Mike Fitzgerald worked around Billy Walker's RBI double in the top of the ninth to pick up his eighth save of the season.
Â
Despite being outhit, 9-7, by Hartford (28-13), the Huskies' offense managed to jump on the Hawks' starter Justin Cashman early, scoring two runs during the second inning.
Â
Zach Perry led off the frame for Northeastern (23-19) with a double that carried all the way to the wall in left center. After Kelly's single through the right side brought Perry 90 feet closer to home,
Max Burt beat out a double-play ball at first to earn his 20th RBI of the season. With two outs and a run already in, rookie
Jake Farrell mimicked Perry with a double off the wall in left center, driving Burt around from first to put the Huskies ahead, 2-0.
Â
Limited by Misiaszek to just two hits during the first four innings, Hartford placed two runners aboard for the first time in the top of the fifth courtesy of a single and a one-out walk. Although Joe Roberti would come through with an RBI double to right field, a base running miscue by the Hawks gave Kelly plenty of time to find Treff at the dish, keeping the Huskies' lead intact at 2-1.
Â
Northeastern added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth on three hits. Walsh poked the first pitch he received from Hartford reliever John Mormile up the middle for an RBI single before safely stealing second base on a botched pickoff try. Perry keyed an RBI single up the middle as well, scoring Walsh and giving NU a three-run lead.
Â
Robinson ran into a slight hiccup in the seventh after the Hawks had loaded the bases. However, the Huskies' middle-infielder corps of Kelly and Burt initiated a 4-6-3 double play before Robinson struck out Aaron Wilson to retire the side and end the jam.
Â
Fitzgerald had his hand in all three outs during the ninth, striking out one and fielding two choppers back to the mound, the latter of which stranded Hartford's tying run at second base.
Â
Northeastern will make the short trip to Boston College on Wednesday, May 4, to continue its midweek schedule. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Pellagrini Diamond in Chestnut Hill.
