FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Khori Bennett's 89th-minute strike gave the Northeastern men's soccer team high hopes of finding a late equalizer on Saturday night against Fairfield, despite NU coming up a goal short, 2-1, by the time the final whistle had blown.
 
Bennett accounted for three of the Huskies' five shots on goal, the second most Northeastern (1-3-0) has amassed during a match this season. Brendan Massie and Gaku Lange provided the Huskies' best scoring chances during the opening half, which ended goalless.
 
Dominic Marshall netted both goals for Fairfield (2-1-2), who held a slight, 11-8, edge in shots against Northeastern.

- Fairfield (47th minute): Coming off the pitch at halftime locked in a scoreless game, both sides upped their aggression as the second half began. Head referee Dave Breckner displayed two yellow cards during the opening 30 seconds of the half, keying Fairfield's Angus Hastings 11 ticks into the period and cautioning Northeastern's Ackim Mpofu as well, 17 seconds later. A costly foul in the box by the Huskies awarded a penalty kick to Dominic Marshall, who succeeded in giving the Stags a 1-0 advantage.
- Fairfield (56th minute): Nearly 10 minutes following his initial go-ahead goal for Fairfield, Marshall headed in his second of the contest, finishing a cross from teammate Diego Casielles.
- Northeastern (89th minute): Needing two goals to draw even, the Huskies raised their offensive intensity during the final five minutes of regulation. Khori Bennett fired a shot on goal during the 86th minute, resulting in a corner that brought NU into an attacking formation. Two minutes later, Bennett proceeded to send a shot to the near corner, registering his first career goal while spoiling the Stags' shutout.

- Khori Bennett has directed seven of his 11 shots this season on net (63.6 percent). He leads Northeastern in both statistical categories.
- Brendan Massie, Gerardo Milano, and Edward Okey each made their first-ever starts in an NU uniform on Saturday night.
