BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The No. 15 Northeastern men's hockey team (1-0-0) exploded for four goals in the third period to erase a 2-1 deficit and skate away with its first victory of the season at Sacred Heart (0-1-0) on Friday night at Webster Bank Arena.
The Huskies received goals from five different scorers, including
Zach Solow's eventual game-winning tally midway through the third period.
Tyler Madden scored his first collegiate goal and was 14-of-21 on face-offs in his collegiate debut, while
Brandon Schultz,
Brandon Hawkins and
Grant Jozefek all scored for the Huskies.
Trailing 2-1 entering the final frame, Hawkins quickly leveled the game at two just seven seconds into the frame when the Huskies capitalized on a turnover, allowing
Liam Pecararo (two assists) to find Hawkins alone in the slot.
Eight minutes later, Solow put Northeastern on top for good when he corralled a loose puck atop the crease off a shot from
Jordan Harris, roofing a shot over Pioneer netminder Brett Magnus for the game-winner before Jozefek and Madden tacked on insurance markers late.
Goaltender
Cayden Primeau was solid in goal from start to finish, making 24 saves as the Huskies outshot SHU 31-26. NU was 0-of-9 on the power play while Sacred Heart went 0-of-3.
