BUY: Tickets to Opening Weekend
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – For the second straight night, No. 15 Northeastern men's hockey had five different scorers find the back of the net, and
Cayden Primeau stopped 25 shots to move into a tie for fourth in career shutouts at Northeastern to lead the Huskies (2-0-0) past Sacred Heart (0-2-0) in convincing fashion on Saturday night, 5-0.
Northeastern, which started the season with a sweep on the road for the first time since 1994, struck early in the first and second periods on goals from
Jordan Harris and
Liam Pecararo, respectively, their first as Huskies. The NU power play then went to work midway through the middle frame as rookie
Tyler Madden hammered home a one-timer from Pecararo in the slot for the commanding 3-0 lead through 40 minutes.
The Huskies, which outshot SHU 28-25 and held the Pioneers scoreless on the power play for the second straight night, tacked on two more in the third period as
Jeremy Davies (one goal, one assist) and
John Picking (one goal, one assist) both potted their first of the year to add insurance. Senior
Lincoln Griffin, meanwhile, was solid all weekend for the visitors, adding three assists on the night.
Northeastern returns to Matthews Arena for the first time this season on Friday night when the Huskies host Union for the first of two home games this weekend. Tickets are available by visiting tickets.GoNU.com.
