NEWARK, Del. – Despite 10 stops by
Julia Gluyas, the Northeastern field hockey team was unable to overcome William & Mary Friday night in the CAA Semifinals at Rullo Stadium.
The Tribe got on the board just before halftime, in what ended up being the deciding goal. Gluyas faced 16 shots on the day making 10 saves, her second double-digit save effort of the season, while Northeastern took four shots on goal.
In the 28
th minute, after a flurry of shots and stops by Gluyas, Northeastern took the ball and took off down the field.
Laura MacLachlan fed
Camille O'Conor who sent a shot on goal that
June Curry-Lindahl got her stick on and directed into the net. Or so the Huskies thought.
The goal was called off and the score remained 0-0 until the Tribe used a series of penalty corners to officially get on the board in the 33
rd minute of action. Estelle Hughes got William & Mary on the board off of a penalty corner to make it a 1-0 game at the half.
The Tribe added an insurance goal in the final minute of play to seal the win.
