Huskies hammer four homers, win 10-4 at Brown

Box Score | Season Statistics | Infographic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Powering a season high, four home runs, during the late innings of Tuesday afternoon's game against Brown at Murray Stadium, the Northeastern baseball team distanced itself from a one-run ballgame as the Huskies went on to collect the 10-4 victory – their 20th of the season and sixth against New England opposition.

Northeastern (20-13) received its four homers in pairs during the seventh and eighth innings. Ryan Solomon and Scott Holzwasser provided the first set of back-to-back solo homers that had answered the Bears' two-run sixth inning and allowed NU to reclaim its three-run lead at 5-2.

After Brown (7-20) had charged back with another run during the bottom of the seventh inning, Jake Farrell connected on a three-run home run during the eighth inning, one at-bat before Max Burt unleashed a solo shot to left field, padding the Huskies' lead at 9-3.

Brian Rodriguez opened his midweek start by retiring nine consecutive batters, losing his perfect game on Willy Homza's leadoff double during the bottom of the fourth inning. Rodriguez's four strikeouts foreshadowed David Stiehl's four strikeouts in relief as the NU staff went on to ring up 13 batters – the third most that the Huskies' arms have totaled during a game this season.

Ian Fair and Mason Koppens co-led the Huskies with three hits apiece. Fair doubled to lead off the NU fifth inning while Koppens tripled during the sixth, scoring during Charlie McConnell's RBI single that put Northeastern in front, 3-0.

Koppens and McConnell both stole two bags each as well.

Northeastern rookie Jeff Costello made his first collegiate start and was responsible for creating the first run of the game, singling home Solomon during the top of the fourth inning. Costello would also score during the same inning as Brown committed errors on consecutive batted balls, allowing NU to stake an early, 2-0 lead.

Garett Delano and Sam Grigo both homered for the Bears. Delano's seventh-inning homer off Josh Winkler cut the Huskies' lead at the time to 5-3, while Grigo led off the ninth inning against Owen Batchelder with a solo homer to right field.
