Primeau named to initial U.S. roster for 2018 World Junior Summer Showcase

Complete Roster

BOSTON – Rising sophomore Cayden Primeau, a 2018 Hockey East First Team All-Star, was one of four goaltenders named to the initial United States roster for the 2018 World Junior Summer Showcase, USA Hockey announced on Friday. The 42 players named to the roster will audition for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will take part in the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2018, through Jan. 5, 2019, in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia.

The United States enters the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship having earned three-straight medals (gold - 2017, bronze - 2016, 2018) for the first time in tournament history.

The week-long camp will include 11 international competitions between Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States. The showcase will be held from July 28 - Aug. 4 in Kamloops, British Columbia, at the Sandman Centre.

Primeau (Voorhees, N.J.) is coming off a rookie season for the ages at Northeastern in which he posted a 19-8-5 record, the second most wins for any freshman netminder in the NCAA. Primeau, who was also named to the Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team, a Hockey East First Team All-Star and is a finalist for the Mike Richter Award, broke the Northeastern single-season record with a 1.92 goals against average, the first goaltender in program history to finish the year with a GAA below 2.00. It was good for seventh in the nation, while his .931 save percentage was sixth in the NCAA and is tied for the second best in NU single-season history.

On Feb. 12, he became the first Husky goaltender to backstop the team to a Beanpot championship since Bruce Racine in 1988. He earned the Eberly Award for having the highest save percentage (.974) in the tournament as he stopped 75 of 77 shots.

Primeau is one of six Hockey East players named to the roster.
