BOSTON – Arriving at the 2019 CAA Volleyball Championship as the No. 4 seed, the Northeastern women's volleyball team will begin its run to the league title on Friday, Nov. 22, when the Huskies take on fifth-seeded Elon during the quarterfinal round at 4 p.m. All CAA tournament matches will be streamed live on FloVolleyball.
Â
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
1.
CAA Quarterfinal Preview:Â Northeastern split its regular season series against Elon. On Sept. 29 at the Schar Center, the Huskies were three points away from earning the straight-set victory against the Phoenix, but Elon closed the third set with six unanswered points and went on defeat NU in five sets.
Athena Ardila enjoyed a career afternoon during the Huskies' series-evening win on Oct. 26 at Cabot Center, registering 19 kills, 13 digs, three blocks and a career high, six aces, as Northeastern prevailed in four sets.
Â
2.
Pursuing the Title: The Huskies are in pursuit of their first-ever CAA postseason title, having reached the championship match three times (2008, 2010, 2013). Northeastern's 2019 senior class – comprised of
Nicole Magbanua,
Clare Lund and
Natalie Shollin – has led the Huskies to four consecutive CAA tournaments, but will be competing for its first postseason victory during Friday's quarterfinal. The trio of Huskies has led NU to 68 victories across the last four seasons and attained a .571 winning percentage.
Â
3.
All the Momentum:Â Northeastern ranks among the top three CAA programs in hitting (.223) as well as in kills (13.15), assists (12.36), aces (1.58) and digs (14.60) per set. The Huskies closed the regular season with an 8-4 record across their final 12 matches, during which NU has sported statistical advantages in kills (637-500), digs (702-583) and hitting (.228-.197). Since Oct. 11,
Athena Ardila has recorded double-digit kills during all but one of Northeastern's 12 matches while
Samantha Shupe has logged five double-doubles. The Huskies are also equipped with their 1,000-career-dig libero,
Clare Lund, who averaged 3.65 digs per set during the 2019 regular season.
