DEDHAM, Mass. – Behind a hattrick by freshman
Lauren Rowe, the Northeastern field hockey team came away with an 8-1 victory over Dartmouth on Friday night, earning its 12
th-straight victory over the Big Green and improving to 3-0 to open the year. The eight goals against Dartmouth were the most against the Big Green in program history.
The 3-0 start to the 2019 campaign is the Huskies' best start since 2012, also the season of the Huskies' last NCAA appearance. Dartmouth fell to 0-1 on the season.
Rowe now has thirteen points through the first three games of the season, including seven tonight.
The Huskies' victory was highlighted by Rowe's hattrick and another five different goal scorers while
Julia Gluyas had to make only one save on the night.
The Huskies got out to a fast start registering their first couple of goals in the first three minutes and 15 seconds as
Camille O'Conor redirected her third goal of the season, in as many games, into the back of the net to get the Huskies up 1-0 utilizing the team's first corner of the game for the advantage.
Kasidy Anderson followed that up with her first career field hockey goal less than a minute later to give the Huskies a two-goal advantage.
Alli Meehan added her third goal of the year to make it a three-goal advantage in the second quarter and before the half was over
Melanie Weber made it 4-0, netting her first goal of the season.
In the second half, the Huskies did not relent.
Lauren Rowe picked up her first goal of the game with a nifty move to get in the circle and make it 5-0.
Lexie Dunleavy picked up her first goal of the year as
Bella Cuomo deked a defender to get the ball to Dunleavy for the score. And Northeastern made it a 7-0 advantage as the Huskies continued their penalty corner success when
Angela Connolly inserted to Meg Barrett who made a stellar stop and set up Rowe for the score just before the end of the third quarter.
Dartmouth spoiled the shutout bid in the fourth, but the Rowe added her third goal of the game in the waning minutes as Northeastern continued on for the victory.
The Huskies return to action on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Boston University when they take on the No. 23 Terriers at 1 p.m.
