BOSTON - Northeastern's
Craig Pantano has signed a contract with the Rapid City Rush (Arizona Coyotes) of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), announced by the organization. Last season, Pantano was awarded the Eberly Award for best save percentage in the Beanpot as well as earning the Team Broadcaster's Award.
During his time at Northeastern, Pantano also received Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week and Hockey East Stop It Goaltender of the Month honors. The Bridgewater, Mass. native closed out the year with 34 starts, going 18-13-3, helping him earn more wins at Northeastern in one season than in his three-year career at Merrimack College.
"Craig was a terrific addition to the Northeastern family last season," said Fernie Flaman Head Men's Hockey Coach
Jim Madigan. "From the minute he stepped on campus he was a leader and hard worker in and out of the classroom and in net. He was a very important part of us winning our third straight Beanpot. We wish him well as he begins his professional career."
Pantano transferred after three seasons from Merrimack College (HEAM) and ended his collegiate hockey career with 2256 saves in 91 games played, earning himself a .907 save percentage. The sports leadership graduate major made the Hockey East All-Academic Team his final season.
"I'm extremely appreciative to be given an opportunity during these current times," Pantano said. "The Rush have been a very competitive team in their league, and I hope I can be an asset to their success."
Pantano is the sixth player from the 2019-20 team to sign a professional contract.
