BOSTON – Welcoming the next class of Northeastern volleyball student-athletes, head coach
Lenika Vazquez formally introduced

Maddie Donaphon,
Marika Virthe and
Michelle Won on Tuesday as the four newcomers who will join the ranks of the Huskies heading into the 2020 season. Vazquez, who begins her eighth head coaching season and her first at Northeastern, is looking to build off the Huskies' fourth-place finish in the 2019 CAA standings.
DEFNE ARLIEL
Position: Outside Hitter
Hometown: Istanbul, Turkey
Previous school: Ted Istanbul Koleji
Academic/career interests: Interested in pursuing general studies.

• Graduated from Ted Istanbul Koleji (Istanbul, Turkey) after 15 years of study … Outside hitter and three-year captain of the girls' volleyball team.
• Recipient of the High School Success Award.

Position: Libero / Defensive Specialist
Hometown: Newtown Square, Pa.
Previous school: Academy of Notre Dame de Namur
Academic/career interests: Interested in studying engineering.

• Four-year varsity libero at Academy of Notre Dame de Namur (Villanova, Pennsylvania) … Captained the Irish during her senior season (2019) … Became the school's first-ever player to reach 1,000 career digs.

Position: Middle Blocker

Previous school: Dr. Phillips High School
Academic/career interests: Interested in studying business administration with aspirations of working in corporate for a big company.
Accolades
• Varsity middle blocker at Dr. Phillips High School (Orlando, Florida) … Captained the Panthers during her senior season (2019).
• 2019: Registered 152 kills, 33 blocks, 26 digs and three aces … Notched six consecutive blocks during Dr. Phillips' regional semifinal match.
• Competed as a middle blocker for OTVA/18 South Roberto (Orlando, Florida) on the AAU and USAV circuits … Captained the club during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.
• Seven-time national champion with OTVA, winning four AAU trophies and three USAV titles … Recorded two career national championship-clinching points: one AAU (block) and one USAV (kill).

Position: Libero / Defensive Specialist
Hometown: Newport Beach, Calif.
Previous school: Corona del Mar High School
Academic/career interests: Interested in studying English, informational and graphic design, and business with aspirations of becoming an editor, publisher, creator or CEO of her own company, preferably in social media or graphic design.
Accolades
• Varsity libero and defensive specialist at Corona del Mar High School (Newport Beach, California) … Captained the Sea Queens during her senior season.
• Named to the 2019 All-Sunset League First Team.
• Two-time Pacific Coast League champion, twice advancing to the Southern California Division I semifinals (2017, 2018).
• Competed for five seasons as a libero with Tstreet (Irvine, California) … Co-led the club to third-place finishes with the 17-1s squad at the West Coast qualifier and the 14-1s squad in the national division on the Junior Olympic circuit.
