Four Northeastern Players Selected in 2021 MLB Draft

BOSTON — Northeastern outfielders Jared Dupere and Ben Malgeri, pitcher Brandon Dufault and infield commit Michael Sirota were selected in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday afternoon. This is the third time Northeastern has had four members of its program drafted in the same year and the first time since 2011. 

JARED DUPERE, OF, So.-R, Amesbury, Mass.
Drafted by the San Francisco Giants (13th round, 386th overall pick)

  • All-American third team
  • CAA Player of the Year
  • Single-season school record 21 home runs (No. 3 in NCAA)
  • Hit .343 with a single-season school record .781 slugging percentage

BRANDON DUFAULT, RHP, Jr.-R, Windham, N.H.
Drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (16th round, 471st overall pick)

  • No. 2 in the CAA with five saves
  • Made 16 appearances out of the bullpen
  • Struck out 22 batters in 17.0 innings pitched
  • Has one save and six strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched in the Cape Cod League for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox
BEN MALGERI, OF, Jr.-R, Stratham, N.H.
Drafted by the Detroit Tigers (18th round, 525th overall pick)
  • 2021 CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player
  • Five home runs in CAA tournament
  • Posted a .280 batting average with seven home runs and 28 RBIs this season
  • Has a .243 batting average, with a home run, four RBIs, and four stolen bases while playing in the Cape Cod League for the Harwich Mariners.

Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers (16th round, 492nd overall pick)
