29 Huskies Appear In 2023 Collegiate Summer Baseball Leagues

BOSTON - Over the summer, 29 current and future members of the Northeastern Baseball Program appeared on collegiate summer ball rosters this summer, with nine players appearing in the Cape Cod League, five players earning post-season awards, and six making their league's All-Star game rosters.
 
The group was highlighted by John J. Claffey Award winner Tyler MacGregor, the second straight Husky to win the award, NECL champion with the Newport Gulls Luke Beckstein, and Team USA Collegiate Camp invite Aiven Cabral.

Jack Beauchesne – Junior – RHP – Martha's Vineyard Sharks (NECBL) / Worcester Bravehearts (FCBL)
  • Made appearances for both the Martha's Vineyard Sharks and the Worcester Braves this summer
  • Made 17 appearances for the Sharks with a 3-2 record and 2.05 ERA
  • In 26.1 innings, allowed just six earned runs on 25 hits, while holding a K/BB ratio of 22/14
  • Made one appearance for Worcester – a 2.0 inning save with one run allowed on two hits, with one strikeout
 
Luke Beckstein – Senior – INF – Newport Gulls (NECBL)
  • Won the NECBL Championship with the Newport Gulls
  • Batted .253 in 29 appearances with three doubles, a triple, 11 RBI and eight stolen bags
  • Turned 23 double plays in the infield
  • Batted leadoff for the Gulls' playoff run, batting .480 in seven appearances with a home run and three RBI
  • Made the NECBL All-Star game - All-NECBL honorable mention
 
Justin Bosland – Junior – UTL – Brockton Rox (FCBL) /  Harwich Mariners (CCBL)
  • Spent time in both the Future's Leage and the Cape Cod League over the summer, with 28 appearances for the Rox and three appearances for the Mariners
  • With Brockton he posted a .369 batting average with four doubles, two triples, and five RBIs
  • Stole 19 bases in the FCBL
  • Made his Cape League debut on July 31 for Harwich, starting in center field and going 1-for-3 on the night
 
Gregory Bozzo – Senior – C – Keene Swamp Bats (NECBL) / Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (CCBL)
  • Appeared in 23 games for the Swamp Bats before making his Cape League debut in July
  • Batted .256 for the swamp bats with two doubles, three homers, and 12 RBIs
  • Earned All-NECBL honorable mention status with Keene and made the NECBL All-Star Game
  • With Y-D, made two appearances to close out the season – posted a perfect 1.000 fielding% behind the plate
 
Matt Brinker – Sophomore – C – Mystic Schooners (NECBL)
  • Made 21 appearances for the Mystic Schooners
  • Tallied eight hits, one double and one homer, with seven runs batted in
  • Drew 14 walks and scored four runs
 
Aiven Cabral – Sophomore – RHP – Newport Gulls (NECBL) /  Team USA Collegiate Training Camp
  • Began his summer with Newport before being named to the 2023 Team USA Collegiate summer training camp
  • Made two appearances for Newport, one start, notching a win with just two hits and one earned run allowed – struck out three
  • Left the Gulls to participate in Team USA camp in Cary, NC on June 25 – made one appearance in the Stars vs. Stripes intrasquad scrimmages
 
Dennis Colleran – Junior – RHP – Worcester Braves (FCBL) / Hyannis Harbor Hawks (CCBL)
  • Returned to action this summer with nine appearances for the Worcester Braves
  • Held a 1-0 record and 1.80 ERA with three saves for the Braves, allowing just three earned runs on five hits, and a K/BB ratio of 14/3
  • Made his Cape League debut with Hyannis this summer with another nine appearances for the Hawks
  • In 13.0 innings of work, allowed seven earned runs on nine hits, a K/BB ratio of 18/9, and a 4-0 record
 
Nick Coniglio – Freshman – RHP – Pittsfield Suns (FCBL)
  • Incoming righty who made five relief appearances for the Suns
  • Posted a 1-1 record with one save and a 4.26 ERA
  • In 6.1 innings of work, allowed three earned runs on six hits, striking out three
 
Jack Doyle – Junior – INF – Bluefield Ridge Runners (APPY)
  • Doyle posted a .390 batting average, the best of any Husky in a summer league this year, with two homers and 21 RBIs
  • Posted a .491 on-base percentage and a .588 slugging percentage, with 11 extra-base hits (8 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR)
  • Made the All-Appy Team as a third baseman as his Ridge Runners finished the season 22-20
 
Brett Dunham – Junior – RHP – North Shore Navigators (NECBL)
  • Made seven appearances, all starts, for North Shore
  • Worked 22.1 innings, allowing just 14 earned runs on 23 hits
  • Struck out 25 batters, walking only 16 for a 10.1 K's per nine
 
Harrison Feinberg – R-Sophomore – OF – Danbury Westerners (NECBL)
  • Played 38 games for Danbury of the New England Collegiate League
  • Posted a .226 average with six doubles, a triple, and four homers for 14 RBI
  • Threw out five runners from the outfield
 
Will Fosberg – Freshman – C – Nashua Silver Knights (FCBL)
  • Made his collegiate summer league debut with Nashua, appearing in 33 games
  • Had a .301 batting average with 12 RBIs and a .430 on-base percentage
  • Slugged .398 with five doubles and two triples
  • Named the league's "Top Pro Prospect" among position players in the postseason awards and made the FCBL All-Star Game
 
Michael Gemma – Senior – RHP – Nashua Silver Knights (FCBL)
  • Made nine appearances, five starts for Nashua throwing 25.1 innings
  • Allowed just seven earned runs on 15 hits, striking out 34 batters and walking just 15
  • Posted a 2.49 ERA, 12.1 K/9, and 1.18 WHIP on the summer with a 1-3 record
  • Made the FCBL All-Star Game
 
Ryan Gerety – Freshman – OF – Brockton Rox (FCBL)
  • Made 32 appearances for Brockton ahead of his rookie season with Northeastern
  • Posted a .340 batting average with two doubles, one homer, and eight RBI
  • Threw out five runners from the outfield on the summer
  • Another Husky featured on a FCBL All-Star roster
 
Jake Gigliotti – Senior – RHP – Cotuit Kettleers (CCBL)
  • Made six starts on the Cape, seven total appearances, for Cotuit with a 1-2 record
  • Posted a 4.91 ERA, allowing just 14 ER on 29 hits
  • Struck out 21 batters, walked just 11
  • Made the Cape League All-Star Game
 
Ryan Griffin – Sophomore – RHP – Nashua Silver Knights (FCBL)
  • Made 19 appearances, one start, for Nashua, holding a 2-0 record and a 2.89 ERA
  • Allowed just 12 earned runs in 37.1 innings of work, with 29 strikeouts and 16 walks
  • Held a 1.39 WHIP and recorded two saves
 
Jack Goodman – Sophomore – INF – Four Teams (FCBL, CCBL)
  • The transfer from Pepperdine spent his summer with four teams across the Future's League and the Cape League
  • He spent most of his summer with the Mystic Schooners of the FCBL – he appeared in 19 games with a .307 batting average, including four doubles, a triple, two homers, and 16 RBI
  • The majority of his Cape time was spent with Harwich, where he appeared in five games with two hits and a stolen base
 
Will Jones – Senior – LHP – North Shore Navigators (NECBL) / Harwich Mariners (CCBL)
  • Made nine appearances, five starts for North Shore in the NECBL
  • Held a 1-2 record with the Navs, working 28.2 innings with only eight earned runs allowed on 31 hits – held a 7.40 K/BB ratio and 1.25 WHIP
  • In his one Cape League appearance, worked 3.1 innings of relief, allowing two hits and no runs, striking out seven
 
Nate Lam – Freshman – OF – Nashua Silver Knights  (FCBL)
  • Appeared in 23 games for Nashua
  • Batted .283 on the summer, with a .328 on-base% and a .300 slugging%
  • Hit one double and batted in seven runs for the Knights
 
Alex Lane – Senior – DH/1B/OF – Hyannis Harbor Hawks (CCBL)
  • Played in 29 games for Hyannis on the Cape
  • Notched eight doubles and six RBI over the summer, with a .362 slugging%
  • Saw action as a first basemen in 22 of his 29 games with 83 putouts
 
 
Cam Maldonado – Sophomore – OF – Bristol Blues (NECBL)
  • Made 18 appearances for Bristol in the offseason
  • Tallied a solo home run and stole five bases with the Blues
  • Scored six runs
 
Tyler MacGregor – Grad. Student – 1B – Falmouth Commodores (CCBL)
  • Became the second straight Husky to win the John C. Claffey Award for the best New England local player on the Cape
  • Appeared in 29 games for Falmouth with a .318 average, four doubles, a triple, two homers, and 23 RBIs
  • Slugged .430 on the year and had an on-base percentage of .423
 
Brendan McFall – Grad. Student – RHP – Vermont Lake Monsters (NECBL)
  • The DIII transfer spent his summer with Vermont, appearing in four games of relief work
  • Allowed no earned runs in 4.2 innings of work with one game finished
  • Struck out three batters while allowing just three hits
 
James Morice – Sophomore – RHP – Mystic Schooners (NECBL)
  • Made 10 appearances out of the bullpen for Mystic
  • Worked 9.0 total innings striking out eight batters
  • Was the final Mystic pitcher in four contests this summer
 
Mike Sirota – Junior – OF – Hyannis Harbor Hawks (CCBL)
  • Appeared on the Hyannis roster to start the summer season, making eight appearances
  • Batted .304 on the cape with a .522 slugging percentage, two doubles, one homer, three RBIs, and two stolen bases
  • Recorded 10 putouts and two assists in the outfield with no errors
 
Jimmy Sullivan – Senior – C – Bristol Blues (NECBL)
  • Played in 16 games for Bristol, with 15 appearances behind the plate
  • Recorded eight hits, notched three RBIs and was a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen bases
  • Threw out six runners from behind the plate
 
Matt Thorsen – Freshman – INF – Pittsfield Suns (FCBL)
  • The incoming rookie appeared in 15 games for Pittsfield this summer
  • Notched a double, a triple, and four RBI while stealing four bases
  • Turned six double plays while playing second base and third base
 
Chris Walsh – Freshman – UTL – Brockton Rox (FCBL)
  • Played in 26 games for Brockton at shortstop, second base, and the outfield
  • Hit four doubles, four RBIs, and stole six bases on the year
  • Turned 10 double plays from the middle infield with 66 assists
 
Carson Walsh – Sophomore – RHP – Vermont Lake Monsters (FCBL)
  • Made 14 appearances out of the Vermont bullpen
  • Held a 1-0 record with a 3.52 ERA
  • Struck out 12 batters in 15.1 innings of work
