Brynn Smith garnered CAA weekly awards, announced by the league on Monday afternoon. Koanui was tabbed Co-Defensive Player of the Week, and Smith earned Rookie of the Week honors.
In a perfect weekend for the Huskies, Koanui averaged 6.00 digs per set and tallied double-digit digs in both wins. In Friday's thrilling five-set win over the Tribe, the Kapolei, Hawaii native notched a career-high 30 digs. Koanui then followed up in Saturday's three-set victory with 18 digs and a career-high six service aces, which ranks second in program history for the most in a single match.
Smith paced the NU offense in both wins, averaging 4.25 kills per set. On Friday, the Long Grove, Illinois native had a performance to remember with a career-high 21 kills and nine digs. The freshman then closed the weekend in style on Saturday with a game-high 13 kills and nine digs.
Koanui, Smith, and the Huskies will return to the court at Hofstra on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12.
