Shaw, Godish and Hassman Headline CAA Cross Country Yearly Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – Cross Country Head Coach Tramaine Shaw, senior Benjamin Godish, and graduate student Abigail Hassman earned 2024 CAA Cross Country honors, as announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon. Shaw received the CAA Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, while Godish and Hassman were named CAA Men's and Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year.

This is the second straight year the duo has received the prestigious honor and the first time the same pair of runners has won this award in back-to-back seasons.

Shaw became the first coach in Northeastern program history to lead the women's cross-country team to a CAA title. Led by a group of experienced and upper-class runners, she helped guide the Huskies to collect 44 points at the CAA Championships in Elon, N.C.

Godish followed his impressive junior campaign by setting a new personal best at the Paul Short Invitational 8k race, running a 23:50.5 at Lehigh University. He then rolled into the CAA Championships, where he picked up his second straight CAA individual title and Most Outstanding Performer after finishing the Phoenix Cross Country Course in Elon, N.C. at 24:11.4. He became just the tenth runner to win multiple CAA cross-country individual championships, and the only the second Husky to win multiple titles. Godish then led the men to a top-15 finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional with a time of 30:17.46 and was named to the NCAA Northeast All-Region Team.

Hassman added more to her legacy this season, becoming the first women's runner in school and conference history to win three individual CAA championships. She cruised to her third straight title after crossing the line at 20:08.1 on the Phoenix Cross Country Course 6K course, 15 seconds ahead of the next closest runner. Her efforts earned her the Most Outstanding Performer award. The graduate student then ran a solid race at NCAA Northeast Regional, taking 11th place in the women's 6k race with a time of 20:09.44. She was named to the NCAA Northeast All-Region Team.

Hassman and Godish also earned All-CAA team honors alongside six teammates. Graduate students Azza Borovicka-Swanson, Tyler BroganAva Duggan, senior Kyle Sarney, graduate student Lena LeBrun, and freshman Ryan Leslie all garnered top 15 places at the CAA Championships.
