Huskies Open 2024 Season With Boston College And Quinnipiac

BOSTON — The Northeastern field hockey team kicks off its 2024 campaign with two games this weekend. The Huskies face off with in-state rival Boston College for the season opener Friday at 5 p.m., before returning to Dedham Field to battle with Quinnipiac in the home opener Sunday at 1 p.m.

The matchup against Boston College will be streamed on ACC Network Extra, and the game vs. Quinnipiac is available to watch on FloSports.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:

1. LEAGUE LEADERS: Northeastern led the conference with three Preseason All-CAA Team selections. Graduate student midfielder Lauren Rowe, who enters her final year with the Huskies, earned a spot on the Preseason All-CAA Team for the fourth time, a distinction no other athlete has achieved on Northeastern Field Hockey. Rowe led the team with 26 points, scoring nine and assisting eight. She is joined by graduate student forward Mak Graves and senior midfielder Lara Taylor, who received their first Preseason All-CAA team honors. Graves collected seven assists to rank second on the team last season, while Taylor registered three goals and four assists in 12 games.

2. RETURN OF THE PACK: The Huskies bring back 21 players from last year's squad, including eight of the top ten highest points scorers. Sophomore forward Alex Mega looks to have a breakout season after an impressive rookie campaign. The Rhode Island native recorded nine goals and two assists in 18 games played last season, earning a spot on the CAA All-Rookie Team.

3. ONE LAST RODEO: Graduate student midfielder/back Caroline Sweeney and Rowe return as the Huskies' captains for the 2024 season. This marks the third year in a row that Sweeney and Rowe have repped the captain's armband. They have combined for 38 games played, 26 points and 2024 minutes logged over that tenure.

Following the opening weekend, the Huskies set off for a two-week road trip to compete in California, New York, and central Massachusetts.
