Mathieu Tabs First Career Hockey East Honor

AMESBURY, Mass. — Freshman Jacob Mathieu of the No. 12 Northeastern men's hockey team has been named the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, as announced by Hockey East on Monday afternoon. This accolade is the first of Mathieu's collegiate career.

Mathieu recorded a two-point outing as the Huskies rallied from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime on the road against then-No. 18/19 Boston University. They first-year forward sparked the comeback by burying Northeastern's opening goal on the power play with 2.7 seconds left in the first period, then added an assist on NU's second tally.

In addition to his offensive contributions, the Quebec native generated seven shots on goal, registered one blocked shots, and went 23-for-44 (.523) in the faceoff circle through the series.

Through Hockey East play, Mathieu's eight points currently rank third among all league rookies, while his six assists are tied for second.

Mathieu and the Huskies return to Matthew Arena on Saturday, Nov. 29 for a 4 p.m. matinee matchup against Brown.
