BOSTON – The Northeastern University baseball team (4-5) returns to the mainland after a four-game set on Oahu, facing off with San Diego State (4-9) in another four-game series this Thursday, March 6 through Sunday, March 9 at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The series is scheduled to kick off on Thursday night at 6 p.m. pacific (9 p.m.) eastern. Saturday and Sunday's games will be broadcast on WRBB, and Sunday's game will stream on Mountain West Network.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
1. IRON MAN BOWERY
- In Monday's series finale against Hawaii, starting pitcher Jack Bowery went the full nine innings of regulation, as the Huskies and Rainbow Warriors were deadlocked at a 2-2 scoreline. Bowery ended up pitching 10 full innings on 108 pitches, retiring 19 straight batters from the fourth to the 10th. His two runs allowed came back in the second inning, and he allowed five hits and no walks, striking out a career-high eight batters. He's the first Northeastern pitcher to throw over nine innings in a game since Devin Monds in 2005, who had a no-hitter through nine innings in a 0-0 game. Monds made it to the 10th inning but was relieved in the top of the 10th after Hartford notched its first hit of the game - the Huskies went on to win in the bottom of the 10th, 1-0. Bowery was relieved in the 11th, and the Huskies were walked off by Hawaii in the 12th, 3-2.
2. LAST TIME OUT
- The Huskies took one game from Hawaii in its four-game set over the weekend. In NU's win, the Huskies held the Rainbows to their lowest run total of the season, handing them just their second loss of the year. The Huskies got a pair of homers from Harrison Feinberg, and one from Will Fosberg, as the Huskies defeated the 'Bows 7-1 in game two of the weekend. Starting pitcher Will Jones had another quality start earning his third win of the season, working five full innings allowing just one run on three hits and three walks, striking out four. All three of his hits allowed were infield singles. In relief, the duo of Charlie Walker (2.0, 0H, 3K) and Max Gitlin (2.0, 3H, 0BB, 3K) put up four shutout innings to hold Hawaii to just its one run.
3. SCOUTING THE AZTECS
- Coming into the weekend, San Diego State holds a 4-9 record after a four-game skid that includes an 0-3 weekend at St. Mary's, and an away midweek loss to Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday night. This will be the first meeting of the two programs, with Northeastern making a trip to the west coast for the second straight season. At Tony Gwynn Stadium, the Aztecs are 2-3 with wins over Seattle (12 innings) and U-San Diego. This will be SDSU's first weekend set at home against a single opponent, after hosting the Tony Gwynn Legacy tournament at home in weekend two.
