Northeastern-Notre Dame game suspended after two periods

Box Score Box Score

BOSTON – The Northeastern men's ice hockey team and No. 9 Notre Dame played 40 minutes of scoreless hockey before a Zamboni malfunction caused damage to the ice during the second intermission, forcing the officials to suspend the game after two periods, 0-0.

The delay began during the second intermission when one of the Northeastern Zamboni's broke down in the left corner of the ice, causing that portion of the ice unable to freeze. After a delay, the ice was deemed unplayable and play was suspended.

Huskies fans who purchased a ticket for the suspended game are eligible to exchange their tickets for a future Huskies regular season home game. Tickets that were purchased the day of the game at the door must be present to be eligible for the exchange. All exchanges must be done in advance of your selected event. Please contact the Northeastern Box Office at (617) 373-4700 or huskytix@northeastern.edu to make your exchange. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you at a future Huskies game.

Jake Theut, who made his first collegiate start on Sunday, made 22 saves through two periods for the Huskies, while Cal Petersen had 16 stops for the Fighting Irish.

Neither team was able to capitalize on the power play as Notre Dame went 0-of-5 while the Huskies were 0-of-3. The Fighting Irish also won 27-of-44 face-offs.

The Huskies will be back in action on Friday night when Northeastern hosts No. 17 Providence at Matthews Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.

Below is a statement from Hockey East regarding Sunday's game:
"A Hockey East Association game, played between Notre Dame and Northeastern on Sunday, November 13 at Northeastern's Matthews Arena was suspended following an ice resurfacer malfunction during the second intermission with the score tied, 0-0. The ice was deemed unplayable by the on-ice officials, consistent with Rule 82.5 of the NCAA Ice Hockey Rules Book.

"A final determination on the outcome of the game, and whether the third period will be made up at a later date, will be made by the league's executive committee later this week."
