The Northeastern volleyball team lost to non-conference opponent Brown, 3-2, Thursday night in Cabot Gym.

In the first game of the match, Brown got out to a 2-0 lead and kept its advantage throughout. When the Bears increased their breathing room to four points, the Huskies could not regain momentum, losing 15-11.

The second game was back and forth the whole way, until NU pulled away, winning 15-11. Husky Kristin Deatherage led the way with eight kills and zero errors on fifteen attacks.

The Bears jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the third game, but the Huskies would not go away. NU battled back to make it 14-12, in favor of the Bears, but could not finish out the comeback. Brown eventually won 15-12.

In the fourth game of the match, both teams had their share of the lead several times, but the Huskies managed to come out on top 15-12.

The decisive fifth game started off with NU jumping out to a 3-0 lead before Brown answered with a 5-0 run of its own. The Huskies and Bears battled the rest of the way, with the Ivy League school coming out on top 15-11.

Deatherage led the way for NU as she recorded a game-high 28 kills, 20 digs and 4 service aces.

In the victory, the Bears improved to 11-11 on the season, while the Huskies fell to 16-13 overall.

Next up for Northeastern is a key matchup with America East foe New Hampshire on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Huskies and Wildcats are tied in the loss column with two conference losses each and the winner of Saturday's match will come away with second place in the conference standings.
