STONY BROOK, NY - The Northeastern volleyball team won its fifth-straight match on Saturday afternoon as it defeated America East opponent Stony Brook 3-1 at Pritchard Gymnasium in Stony Brook, N.Y.
The Huskies dropped game one of the four-game match 30-27, but rallied to win the final three games (30-27, 30-20 and 30-22) and the match.
Leading the offensive attack for NU was senior outside hitter Kristin Deatherage who tallied 15 kills on 31 attacks with just two errors for a hitting percentage of .419 on the match. Fellow senior Gianina Pellegrini added 13 kills on 23 attacks with 2 errors for an impressive .478 hitting percentage.
Despite three double-digit kill performances on the Seawolves (Rachel Goldsmith 18 kills, Valerie Maloy 15 kills and Debra Falkenberg 14 kills), Stony Brook hit just .128 for the match compared to NU's .225 hitting percentage.
The Huskies improve to 14-6 overall and a perfect 4-0 in America East action, while the 'Wolves fall to 9-11 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
Next for Northeastern is another America East matchup as they take on Hartford on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Connecticut.
