Northeastern 2, Boston University 1 (OT)

BOSTON, MA — Northeastern defeated Boston University 2-1 in overtime Saturday night infield hockey at Sweeney Field. The win ended NU's three-game losing streak to the Terriers, and was the Huskies first victory over BU since a 3-0 win Oct. 25, 1998.

Junior Sarah Broderick (Harwich, MA) scored the OT game-winner at 7:32 of the extra session. Maureen Connelly (Greenland, NH) dropped a pass to Broderick whose blast from inside the circle beat Terrier goalie Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, NH). The goal was the seventh on the season for Broderick and extended her point streak to six games and her goal-scoring streak to five games. NU has now won three straight games, with Broderick scoring the game-winning goal in all three victories.

Connelly was responsible for the game going into overtime. With less than two minutes to play in regulation, the Huskies still trailed BU 1-0, despite outshooting the Terriers 9-3 for the game, and having 12 penalty corners to BU's four. But with only 1:23 to go in regulation, Connelly got to a loose ball in front of the Terrier net and deflected it into the goal for her fifth score of the season.

Boston University got on the board first, when Jane Rogers (Watertown, MA) took a pass from Felicia Cappabianca (North Caldwell, NJ) and fired a shot into the net for the goal at 21:42 of the first half.

Kathleen Madaus (Boylston, MA) picked up the win in net for NU, her third of the season.

The Huskies improve to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in America East, while the Terriers drop to 1-4 and 1-1 in America East. It is the third time in NU history that the Huskies have began a season 5-1. The other two occurred in 1994 and 1992. Both those seasons ended with an America East championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The next game for Northeastern is on Friday Sept. 28 at Towson.
