Northeastern 3, Holy Cross 0

The Northeastern volleyball team won its second straight match as the Huskies defeated Holy Cross 3-0 (30-21, 30-27 and 30-19) on Tuesday night at the Hart Center in Worcester. NU improves to 11-5 on the season.

Northeastern led 7-1 in game one and never looked back, extending its advantage to 21-9. Holy Cross gained ground, cutting the deficit to nine at 25-16, but Northeastern won five of the next 10 points for the win.

Game two was more competitive. After Holy Cross started out with a 2-0 advantage, the lead changed hands at 6-5 as NU gained momentum to build a 19-13 edge. But Holy Cross would not give up, coming within one point at 24-23 when NU's Larissa Adomat made an attack error. Holy Cross hung around, down 28-27, but NU took home the match with Shannon Brooker's kill, the second of consecutive Husky points to end the game.

In the third game, Holy Cross led 9-5 before NU knotted the score with Rebecca Holland's kill (9-9). Katie Snell delivered a kill for a 10-9 Holy Cross advantage, but a couple of Husky offensive attacks and two service aces from Kristin Ursillo provided NU with some breathing room. After falling behind seven points, the Crusaders closed to within four before Northeastern pulled away to claim the 30-19 victory.

Adomat registered a game-high 15 kills, supported by Ursillo's 27 assists. Kelly Cognac had 13 digs for the Huskies. Lauren Liesman accumulated 11 digs for Holy Cross. Snell posted nine kills while Katie Mulvihill had four blocks assists.

Next up for Northeastern is the Crimson Classic at Harvard on Friday and Saturday. The Huskies take on Winthrop on Friday at 4 p.m. and then play two on Saturday, first versus Harvard at 1 p.m. followed by Dartmouth at 4 p.m. The Crimson Classic marks the final in-season tournament of the season for NU.
