Maine 2, Northeastern 1 (OT)

The eighth-ranked Huskies were upended, 2-1, in overtime at Maine Sunday afternoon. NU couldn't hold on to its 1-0 first-half lead, despite outshooting the Black Bears 13-2 and having a 14-4 penalty corner advantage for the game.

The loss snapped NU's 11-game conference winning streak and dropped the Huskies to 13-3 overall and 2-1 in America East play. The upstart Black Bears improve to 12-2 and 1-1.

The Huskies had four penalty corners in extra time but couldn't take advantage of them.

"We couldn't capitalize on any corners and made some mental mistakes defensively," said NU coach Cheryl Murtagh, whose team was coming off a 6-0 victory over 15th-ranked California. "We have to come to play every time. We can't afford any more letdowns. We had a great win on Friday, but couldn't carry that momentum into today's game."

Sophomore Mari Creatini put the Huskies ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 28th minute, only to have Rachel Hilgar score the equalizer four minutes later.

With four minutes left in overtime, Maine's Tara Bedard scored the game winner from Amie Dubois. The Black Bears made both their shots count, which proved to be the difference in the contest.
